There were references to people, TV shows, food, footy which were 100% Australian, but eventually it was the slang that would throw me off! I stopped making random conversation – it was just too tough.
When you move from India, one of the things you want is a nice house with a back yard, but as Andy looked for those houses in Mawson Lakes, we realised that could wait till we found jobs. Yup, we had no idea how long that would take.
The first thing Andy had to do was look for a house. We decided on Mawson Lakes only after he’d moved to SA, and now Andy had to make his way from Woodcroft to Mawson Lakes to house hunt. I’ll tell you this – it wasn’t a joy ride. 3 buses and 1.5 hours later, Andy would find himself in Mawson Lakes.
The first you need to know is that the Adelaide job market is small and jobs are few, and depending on your line of work, you may have to be prepared to be unemployed for a fairly long time.
Some folks who were already here in Australia had moved directly to Sydney or Melbourne and told us not to waste our time in SA because of the job scene.
